Mass. National Guard Army Aviation
Assists with Forest Fire

by Maj. Jonas Patruno, commander, MA Army Aviation Facility #2, Massachusetts National Guard

CLARKSBURG, Mass. - An Army Aviation Crew and Blackhawk Helicopter from the Massachusetts Army National Guard stationed out of Westfield/Barnes Airport responded to a fire in Clarksburg State Forest on Thursday, April 30, 2015.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency and Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security initiated the request and the Massachusetts Army National Guard executed the mission in support of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation Fire Warden.

The unit trains annually with the DCR District Fire Warden in Western

Massachusetts specifically for missions of this nature. The unit was called and effectively responded and helped the community.

This type of training and mission strengthens partnerships within the communities and provides an opportunity for the Guard to make a difference. Always Ready! Always There!
