Tom Desmond Retires after 36 Years of Dedicated Service

LEXINGTON, Mass. – Friends, family, fellow Defense Department civilians, and the state’s top National Guard leadership gathered at Waxy O’Connor’s outside Hanscom Air Force Base here Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, to bid farewell to Mr. Thomas Desmond, the Massachusetts National Guard’s Equal Employment Manager.

 

Desmond, a retired Massachusetts Army National Guard lieutenant colonel, leaves his federal technician position after 32 years of dual status, as well as non-dual status, service.

 

Desmond served the Massachusetts National Guard in numerous positions, including state diversity manager and deputy human resources officer. As co-chair of the state’s joint diversity executive counsel, Desmond led the state to four consecutive National Guard Bureau diversity awards, said EEO specialist Kevin Ferguson.

 

Desmond is graduate of the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College and completed a second Masters Degree in Work Environment Policy at UMASS Lowell.

 

Desmond has been married for 35 years to Patricia Desmond, who also serves the community as Hudson Public Library Director. The two reside in Hudson, Mass.
